Cats living exclusively indoors have a sedentary lifestyle and may take limited exercise (with a higher risk of obesity) than those having access to the outside. That is why they have lower energy requirements. The lifestyle of the indoor cat, sheltered from temperature and variations and changes in day length, disrupts the natural seasonal cycle of fur growth, so that it molts or sheds almost continuously.
